Sabbats and Celebration

Yule 21st December 2012

Yule

We are in winter already, the weather is turning colder and we have all turned introspect for Samhain, Yule is on its way. Also known as mid winter, or the winter solstice it is the time of the shortest day and longest night. This is the time of year to snuggle up in warm winter clothes, spend time with family and looks after those who need it most. It is also a time of grate generosity my thought is how can I make this last for more than just a week in December?

The Evergreen plants and spirits of winter

The evergreen is a well known symbol of this time of year as it shows that even though most of the earth has gone to sleep there is still life out there and it is at its peak. Many of the faeries are asleep or have moved aboude to keep warm over the hardest time of the year. There are some out and about though, such as Jack Frost and mother Holle, the snow queen and the holly king often in the guise of Father Christmas. Now is the time of preporation getting gifts ready and stocking up food. The count down has started soon there will be colourfull and sparkly light catching decorations in every home to celebrate the middle of winter and bring the sun inside no matter what your religion is most will celebrate the renewal of the sun.

 Imbolc  2nd February

Imbolc is the time when we notice that winter is coming to an end, though it isnt quite over there is the odd day that is warmer and the ground is getting ready to grow flowers. The odd brave snow drop appears.
