K is for Kitchen witch (pagan blog project)

Kitchen Witch or Kitchen magaic is magic to do with very often the day to day running of a house hold. There is also acording to  Wikipaedia Kitchen witch

" A kitchen witch, sometimes called a cottage witch^[1] or a "Scandinavian" kitchen witch doll, is a poppet or homemade doll resembling a stereotypical witch or crone displayed in residential kitchens as a means to provide good luck^[2] and ward off bad spirits.^[3]"

I thought that I would try to find out a little more about this and perhaps make one for my own Kitchen Witch even though you can buy them I think that making one might be a little more fun. I have found this web page to help me it looks a good page with patterns. From helens web page . Looking at information about the Kitchen witch doll is hung up to help keep the Kitchen in order apparently she is good at helping to keep food good and helping with cleaning and such like. As I intend to spend more time making things in the Kitchen I think she would be handy to have.

Kitchen magic is as far as I can gather centered mostly around cooking and baking. I think that there is a little bit of a Kitchen witch in all of us. I am not a brillient cook (that is what I have my other half for) but I always try to cook up new things because we all get bored of routine and I am trying to live seasonal and this means that we have stuff that we are not used to and means experimenting and finding new ways to cook. I add a little prayer and think about where the ingredients have come from ect I think that counts as Kitchen Witchery.

The book that I have recently blogged about garden spells has a touch of this kind of magic to it as Claire makes recipies with herbs and plants put together specifically and with meaning to create results such as love, prosperity and wealth etc, I find it interesting because I am learning about plants and the food we eat and what is actually in the food we eat and how it can affect us.

As far as I can tell myself Kitchen Magic is very simular to Hearth Witchery they are both everyday home magic that is really easy to add to everyday life and make sometimes mundane chores like a ritual or an offerning to the deity. I find this is a very earthy aspect of my own path I have strong elements of both these practices in my own life. After all if you cant find magic in everyday life and your own home how on earth are you going to find it in the distant world ? There is always something magical about eating good food something that is tasty and nourishing. This isnt just luxery this is looking after and keeping the magical fire of your own body/ soul temple going its almost like my own starting point. Linking everyday to the devine makes the devine relevent and close to me.
