The Goddess Skadi

There isnt much written about this goddess. She is the Goddess of winter and daughter of a giant. She is a goddess through marriage to the sea god Njord this was not a happy marriage as neither liked the others home. They separated and Skadi is said to have had relationships with Odin, Loki and Ullr. This is just what I have found so far. After her paring from Njord there is very little in folk tale and stories.

This goddess can be seen as the female spirit of winter, though there is not much written about what she actually looks like, many of her traits are acknowledged, such as Revenge, single mindedness and she was a known hunter and a surviver as she lived in the frozen northen hills. She is thought to have gifted humans with skies, skates and sledges. She is best known as the Snow Queen  in modern storys. She can also be equated with the scotish hag of winter.

Scandinavia is the modern name sake of this goddess, it was said to have been her home. She is a personification of the earth mother in winter and is the dark aspect of the mother. 

I have found that most meditations with Skadi helping are ones that help a person over come a problem there own personal dark winter as it were. She is associated with the base Chakra.

This seems a really good time of year to connect with her to help me through the winter and finding the beauty of this seasson.

I will use winter imagery to connect with her, such as blue and white, her elements is Air and the animal most associated with her is the white wolf.
